Grace Nelson,
91, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Elliott and Red Oak, died Sunday evening,
September 9, 2007, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Grace
Auldelene Gittins was born near Elliott, IA, on September 11, 1915, the
daughter of John and Etta Mae (Auld) Gittins. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1932 and furthered
her education at AIB (American Institute of Business) in Des Moines. On March 14, 1936, she married Arleigh
Eugene Nelson at Plattsmouth, NE.
They farmed in the Elliott and Red Oak area and Arleigh also operated
Iowa Pump at Griswold. Following
Arleighıs sudden death on March 2, 1973, Grace continued to live in Red Oak
until 3 years ago when she moved to Omaha to be near her daughter.
Survivors
include her daughters: Phyllis Viner of Malvern, IA, and Patricia Keyport of
Omaha; her son Dale ³Cork² Nelson and his wife Pat of Cody, WY; her 8
grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter. Also surviving is her sister-in-law
Ardelle Clevenger of Council Bluffs, IA.
Grace
was the last of her family. In
addition to her parents, her three sisters, Margaret Faye Gittins, Anna May
Book and Beatrice I. Gittins and her four brothers Cecil, John, Robert and Guy
Gittins, preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, and her son-in-law LeRoy
Viner.
Funeral
services will be Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at the Duhn
Funeral Home in Griswold, Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in the Lowman Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn
Funeral Home and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday
evening.
