
Kenny Nelson, 77, of Griswold, IA died Friday morning, January 4, 2008, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Kenneth Lee Nelson was born at Griswold on February 27, 1930, the son of Hershel Adelbert and Gladys Nellie (Spiker) Nelson. He attended rural schools and graduated from Griswold High School in 1948. Kenny was a veteran of the Korean War and while he was in the service married Leona Lurrie Palmer Kunze on October 29, 1951 at Columbia, SC. After his discharge, they returned to Griswold and farmed from 1953 to 1999 when they retired to town. Leona died on March 27, 2001.
Survivors include one son, Gary Kunze of Salix, IA and one daughter Martha June Richmond of St. Charles, IA, 8 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one brother, Wendell Nelson of Christianburg, VA, and two sisters, Norma Schoening of Emerson, IA and Beverly Kuester of Red Oak, IA. Also surviving is his special friend, Gloria Shellberg of Oakland, IA.
Preceding Kenny in death were his parents, his wife, two sons, Norman Kunze in 1980 and one in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Tony Kafka officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold.
